Welcome to the Merike Lugus Art Gallery on the Web featuring my sculpture and paintings. I have painted all my life (see my CV) [in 2nd window] but my style has changed over the years. Where my early work often showed the influence of Gustav Klimt (see, for example, one of my paintings [in 2nd window] shown in the 1979 City Woman article), my style has changed to a more textural approach -- as you will see from my "Child Bride". Sculpture is newer for me (the past eleven years) so my style is still exploratory. My latest venture is a line of floral sculptures in fiberglass: Lightfantastics.

More information about this site can be found on the About page. If you need help or explanations on how to use this site check our Help page. If you haven't been here for a while, check out the What's new? page.

I've been here before. Quick take me to the table of lists.

A few past shows

The Art Gallery of Northumberland "Upstairs Gallery" Show in Port Hope (2005)

My show, "Definitely Not Black and White", in the Upstairs Gallery (in Port Hope) of The Art Gallery of Northumberland during March and April 2005 consisted of a room of nine of my paintings -- most of them newly produced for the show.

The Colborne Art Gallery Show (2001) in Colborne

The Colborne Art Gallery sculpture show I was honoured to share with the internationally known local area sculptor Frances Gage. It was held at the The Colborne Art Gallery from Feb 3, 2001 to March 25, 2001. This show displayed some explorations of new media (sculpting in wax and then casting in fibreglass, resins, and other media) focussing primarily on translucency and fragility.

The Art Gallery of Northumberland Transient States Show in Cobourg (1998)

My largest previous solo sculpture show Transient States, was held at the Art Gallery of Northumberland from January 17, to March 1, 1998. If you missed it in Cobourg, you can still see a brief summary of Transient States in cyberspace.
