WELCOME
TO 125 STUART STREET!
|

|
Home approximately 2208 square
feet.
Large lot, approximately 42’ x165’.
|
We have
lived here since 1978. When the time came to make an addition to our
family we elected to make this, then very small home, big enough to
accommodate a family of two adults and two children, rather than move
to another neighbourhood. The upstairs addition was constructed in
1981, consisting of the three bedrooms and the bathroom.
This
lovely, quiet neighbourhood proved to be an excellent area to raise
our two sons, and the park across the street was invaluable.

We added
the family room in 1989 to provide an area
for our boys to enjoy the company of their
friends and still have access to the kitchen,
while us adults had company of our own in the
front end.
The front of the house was reconstructed in 1996,
removing the old front porch, building the front 10-foot wall, and
bringing the new roof from the existing top peak. The old front wall
and roof were torn out after the existing structure was built, leaving
room for the loft.

Castings gas fireplace (bricked from floor to ceiling);

The
sunken family room (we call ‘the Sun Room’) may not appear to be
too sunny at this time of the year. It was designed such that the
roof overhang keeps out the hot Summer Sun, but in the Winter, when
the Sun is lower in the sky, the room is very bright and will rise to
temperatures in excess of 27 degrees C (80 degrees F), with no heat
on.

When
the
front was reconstructed, the plan was to wrap a staircase around the
north and west walls of the living room, joining into the loft. At
that time, Moira elected to work from home and so the staircase was
left out in favour of office space. We still feel that it would be a
lovely touch to the room, and a perfect backdrop for an oversized
Christmas tree (or Hanukah bush). |
