Andrea &
Stephen acquired Quinte from us as a puppy, she was their first family
dog. I have enjoyed photos and updates about Quinte since she was a
tiny pup...Quinte is a schnauzer with a sense of humour, her photos and
escapades are always entertaining. It was almost two years later that I
had a young male returned to me, his original owners split and Harley was
in need of a new home. A week after he arrived I emailed Andrea &
Stephen about Harley, they came out to meet him and decided they would
give him a go. Harley and Quinte became best of friends and
certainly added a new dynamic to the household. I have enjoyed watching Andrea grow as a dog trainer and the dogs' performances continue to improve over the years. Stephen has worked hard with Harley's dog aggression issues and together they obtained his Canine Good Neighbour Certification. Andrea has brought focus to Quinte and in 2007 things really started to come together for them. I look forward to seeing what the future holds for them. Below Andrea tells us more about Quinte & Harley.... |

Quinte is my first dog. With the exception of house training, I took on most of the training duties for her. This was a whole new area that I have embraced. Being a particularly precocious Standard Schnauzer, Quinte presented us with some training challenges. It was evident early on that Quinte needed a job so we started agility training. Unfortunately, the obedience foundation wasn’t strong enough so many of the early classes and trials were very frustrating. After returning to do more basic obedience, Quinte’s agility performance began to improve. The addition of Rally Obedience to our training and competing regime also improved our connection and Quinte’s focus. However, it wasn’t until Quinte was diagnosed with a low-normal thyroid in July 2007 that she was really able to shine in the agility ring. With very little medication, Quinte regained the ability to properly focus and manage stress that she had not had for several years. We are actively competing in Agility Association of Canada (AAC), Canine Performance Events and Canadian Kennel Club (CKC) Agility, and Canadian Association of Rally Obedience (CARO) Rally Obedience.

Harley had some social issues from his previous home when he became a part of the family. This made it difficult to work on agility training until they were resolved. Stephen put in a lot of hard work and completed Harley's Canine Good Neighbour Certification. With Harley's improved social skills, I did some Rally Obedience training with him completing his Rally Obedience Novice magna cum laude title. This inspired him to try agility again after showing very little enthusiasm for the sport in the past. Harley has gained a lot of confidence and is now really having a good time in the agility ring joining myself and Quinte for agility classes and trials. Harley's major accomplishments are as follows: 2005 April - Canine Good Neighbour 2006 November - Rally Obedience Novice magna cum laude Title
2007
January – CKC Agility Novice Jumpers with Weaves Title
