Eli becomes FCC Champion October 2009

ELI
Champion Dinsdale Chimera Bras d'Or,CGN,PCD
St.John Am. Therapy Dog

When Cathy was first in touch with me I did not personally have pups available, however, Brooke Thomas of Chimera Standard Schnauzers in Wisconsin had a large litter of black pups that we had co-bred together, I suggested Cathy touch base with Brooke and if she had one available I would be happy to help Brooke pick him out for Cathy. The little blue male in the litter stood out as handsome, precocious and outgoing, I thought he just might be the pup to fill Cathy's wants...I think we made a pretty good choice.

I had the pleasure a year later to meet Cathy, Allan, their daughter Kiri and of course Eli. Under Cathy's guidance he has matured into such a composed young male schnauzer, I could easily see why he excels at his therapy work.  Eli is indeed a wonderful ambassador for the breed.
I am thrilled that Cathy decided to show Eli in Conformation.

New June 7th 2008 Eli completes his Championship with a wonderful Group 4th placement!!

Below Cathy tells us more about Eli.....

Eli arrived on PEI after quite a journey for a  such a little man. At 7.5 weeks old he drove with Lori from Milwaukee, then flew from Toronto to Halifax where Kiri met him and drove home to Charlottetown. Then he proceeded to the easiest part of his journey, the part where he ran around the room and stole our hearts!

Eli’s unflappable, affectionate, curious, and energetic personality had us on our toes immediately. We realized that this dog would be a joy to own and train but would also need discipline and a job! He is so smart that we had to stay ahead of him, being sure to give him the room to mature, but bring things into his life that would keep his synapses firing at a rate at least as fast as his muscles were working. So his training began very early in his life.

I was sure of the jobs I wanted Eli to do and knew right where to start. Off to Kindergarten he went, then to 4H as well as many other “distracting “ and   “socializing” venues. All of our work has paid off and Eli is a hard working member of our family and a complete pleasure.

As a companion Eli is superb. He is kind, intelligent, composed and is in tune with what is expected of him.
As an athlete Eli excels. He runs,  jumps, swims and retrieves with gusto.
As an alarm dog Eli is assertive without being aggressive.
As a friend Eli is tops. He plays with abandon and is protective of his doggie friend as well as his feline buddies, Milo and Mac.
As an obedience dog Eli is attentive, smart, fast thinking and always wants to please. He earned his Canine Good Neighbour Certificate at just over a year and his Pre Novice Obedience Title at 15 months. He is presently training toward his Companion Dog Title.
As a dog who works with children, Eli is the “funnist”. He plays, runs, fetches and simply hams it up with the children. He is most trustworthy with young children and is beginning training as a “Listening Companion” to young readers.

But it is as a Therapy Dog that Eli truly shines. His work with his “Special Friends” is a joy to watch. He is patient, tolerant of their differences, pays attention, always does what is asked of him from “up and kiss” to “bang” and “tug”. Eli seems to intuitively realize that these are very special people and behaves accordingly. Our visits to our “Special Friends” are the highlight of our week.
