We first
became involved with Standard Schnauzers
in the late 80's when looking for a canine companion. After reading numerous books
we narrowed our search down to the Standard Schnauzers. We liked the medium size,
wiry coat, alert expression and most of all the loyalty and intelligence of the breed.
Renting a basement apartment at the time we felt we would be better off acquiring
an older house trained puppy or young adult. A phone call to
a breeder had us driving out to meet a young female. |
|
I wanted to call as soon as I returned home but managed to wait until the following afternoon to let them know we would love to welcome the young female into our home. We arranged to pick her up the following Friday, that had to be the longest week of my life. |
|
| A
lot has happened since that day. I had no
intention of ever breeding Kodie so she was quickly spayed and become a fantastic
companion, she is everything I had dreamed my dog would be and more. I consider her
my foundation without having produced a single puppy.
We have been members of the Standard Schnauzer Club of Canada for many
years, I (Lori) have held positions of Treasurer and
President. We think it is important to support the breed and the
people involved with it. |
|
| We were involved with Standards for four years before we decided to
try our hand at breeding. We felt we needed to live
with, train and show the dogs before jumping into the world of breeding
dogs. Over the years we have shared our best moments with our dogs, and, endured great heartache...the good times however, far out number the bad. We have a great love and respect for this breed and are very serious about our commitment to the dogs and the homes we place our pups in. Our priority in breeding Standard Schnauzers is health & temperament. 99% of our puppies are placed in homes where their main function is family companion. With each breeding we attempt not only to improve on the physical structure of the dog but to breed stable, happy, healthy, loving pets. We believe it is possible to breed to the physical breed standard and maintain intelligence and solid character. |
|
|
We encourage all our new owners to socialize their new puppies daily, and, if possible attend puppy classes starting after their second set of shots. The true spirit and character cannot develop if, as pups, they are not introduced to new situations daily. I have found the most critical socialization period being 10 - 16 weeks of age. During this time they should be taken out to meet strangers, enjoy car rides, they should be involved in all the family outings. But, don't stop there, the first year is very important in developing an outgoing trusted family companion. |

At Dinsdale all our dogs live their lives as much loved family companions. We attempt to keep our numbers low, usually we have 6-8 Standards at home. The Schnauzer mind is active and demands attention. I challenge them with Obedience & Agility. My dogs are happy, healthy and active, if for any reason I feel a dog is not thriving in this multi-dog household I place them with a family where they can live out their lives as number one. My most important function is to provide each with love, affection and consistent training, ensuring that they feel their lives have purpose....this is very important to a Standard Schnauzer. |
|
Working from home enables me to spend most of my time with my dogs. We
usually breed 2-4 litters per year. This varies depending on our
personal schedule and how much time I feel I have to raise a litter.
They are demanding pups and raising a litter can be a full time job if you
are to do it right. I use this website to provide information about the breed to people that are thinking they may want to add a Standard Schnauzer to their lives. I am dedicated to the owners of my pups and try my best to support and help them to raise good mannerly dogs. We love placing pups with owners that are interested in different dog activities and support them and applaud them as they work and succeed with their schnauzers. If
you are interested in the breed and think you may want to provide a home to
a future Dinsdale Standard Schnauzer please browse my website and feel free
to contact us for information.
