John Gregory Burd
1881 - 1946

John was born in Naseerabad, Indiaon 1881. Records are sparce but he is mentioned in the Army Service Corps journals as follows:

1901- 18374 Pte. J.G. Burd transferred to the ASC from the 2nd Bn. Leicestershire Regt.
1902- A.V. Burd promoted Corporal effective 01 July 1902. - L/Corpl. J.G. Burd, serving in 71 Co. appointed 2nd Corpl.
1903 - Pte. J.G. Burd played on the ASC Football team in Cairo. Pte. J.G. Burd appointed L/Corpl. Effective 26 Jan 1903, while serving in Egypt.

His medal card shows his service in the war and the rank of SQMS (WO1). He was serving in Egypt when the war broke out. The date of his discharge is unknown but he did enter the civil service as he is mentioned as a War Department Clerk in the London Gazette of 5th April 1935.

John married Amy Alice Farrel in Aldershot in December 1907, and his will is recorded in the ledgers as "John Gregory Burd of 71 Merivale Road, Hilsea, Portsmouth, died 8 June 1946. Administration: Winchester 13 February 1947 to Alice Amy burd, widow. Effects £1150 2s 10d. "
