The Bravest Generation

The Burds at War 1914-18

This website describes the lives of the children of Warrant Officer Braham Burd C.A.S., an Army schoolteacher who obviously imbued them with such a sense of duty that not one failed to serve with the greatest distinction in the most horrible war in the history of then known mankind.

At the outbreak of the First World War two sons, Arthur and John, had already been serving the Queen in foreign wars. As career soldiers they were already battle tested from working in the supply trains needed to support the troops in South Africa in the Boer War. The remaining three: Henry, Walter and Frederick were serving the community as either ordained Ministers or Divinity students. Florence, the sole daughter in the generation, was not shirking her duty as she became a career schoolmistress, moulding young minds for many years.
