Day One:

After your arrival at the Victoria Inn you will be able to park your car and say goodbye to it for the next four days as canoes and bicycles will be our mode of transport. Once you have settled into your room and perhaps enjoyed a refreshing swim in Rice Lake we will reconvene for a stroll with Rick Beaver, a native artist and educator who will discuss local history and traditions from a native perspective. This will be followed by a welcome cocktail and a brief introduction by your guides. Dinner is served in the dining room of this charming turn of the century inn overlooking the islands and sunset of Rice Lake.

Day Two:

Breakfast is served on the patio overlooking the lake while your gear is loaded into our vans. There is an hour-long transfer into Canadian Shield country to our first launching point at Haultain where we board our canoes and begin our journey down Eel's Creek. Your paddling guides from Timberossa Wilderness Adventures will teach you the proper techniques of this traditional mode of travel with some short portages as well as some easy rapids. Keep your eyes open for a plethora of wildlife inhabiting the region including deer, moose, beaver, songbirds and waterfowl.

We stop for lunch at the base of High Falls, a 15 meter cascade that provides a wonderfully therapeutic back drop for our picnic and a relaxing swim. After our break we continue on in our canoes past 12 meter cliffs before Eel's Creek enters Stoney Lake. A short paddle past some of the 700 islands that populate the lake brings us to the Irwin Inn where your luggage will be waiting for you in your rooms. Dinner is served overlooking the lake in the hotel dinning room of this famous retreat.

Day Three:

Cycling Tour PackagesWe trade in our boats for bikes on this day. Your luggage is loaded into the truck and delivered to your room in Peterborough while you make the journey on bicycle with your guide from The Kawartha Adventure Company. Our route follows the winding forest roads along the south shore of Stoney Lake, past Victorian farmhouses and farmland and into the village of Lakefield. Known for Lakefield College School where Prince Andrew attended high school in the eighties, we pause for lunch at a local café in this charming village and enjoy home made sandwiches and baking.

After lunch and perhaps a little shopping we continue south along the bike path, a converted old rail bed that follows the Trent Canal. En route we will view the many locks that punctuate the Trent Severn Waterway as well as passing through the campus of Trent University. Our ride ends at the Holiday Inn, centrally located on the shores of Little Lake in down town Peterborough.

This evening, cocktails will be served as we have a private tour of The Canadian Canoe Museum, featuring the finest collection of antique canoes and kayaks in the world. Dinner is a catered affair in the museum where we will sample some traditional cuisine enjoyed by the voyageurs three centuries ago. After dinner, in the summer months, there is an open-air concert that is only a short walk from the hotel or perhaps you might choose to enjoy a nightcap in the waterfront bar at the hotel.

Day Four:

Our final day is a multisport day as we depart after breakfast on our bikes and arrive back to the Victoria Inn by canoe. Leaving Peterborough, our ride follows the shore of Little Lake and heads southwest out of town to the Squirrel Creek Conservation Area on the banks of the Otonabee River. Here we will enjoy a gourmet picnic lunch before once again launching our canoes and continuing our journey down the river to Rice Lake.

The final leg of this day takes us past some of the islands of this lake known for its' sport fishing and wild rice to the south shore and the docks of our inn. Our final night banquet will be enjoyed in the inn's dinning room following cocktails on the patio.

Day Five:

Breakfast is included on this day before we say goodbye to our new friends and the Kawarthas and head our separate ways.
