| Kerin Dominates At Mosport And Wins Big! You couldn't
ask for a better day to win the close of the Mosport Park - Cobourg's Brendan Kerin made a triumphant and victorious return to his home track this weekend at Mosport Motorsport Park where he claimed his first win of the season. Kerin was a one man show throughout qualifying and the race as he convincingly crushed the opposition with his 1998 KEY Motorsports, GraftonUtility, Eagle.ca, Limelight Communications car around the extremely fast and daunting Mosport circuit. The Northumberland County resident has been consistantly the fastest driver in the series and led many of the races leading up to this season's first win. "We have been so close all season", beamed Kerin, "if we had some better luck earlier in the season..then the championship could have been ours...but I am so happy for all the people that have stood behind me to get this result". Two qualifying sessions were held before the race to determine the starting grid. As has become the custom this season, it was Brendan Kerin taking his fourth pole position of the year with a sensational lap that saw him lap Mosport within 1/10th of the track record with a lap time of 1:29.410. With the start of the race Kerin lost the lead to ex-teamate Stephane Roy for a lap but quickly got the lead back after a brave pass on the outside of Roy going into turn 8. Kerin was asked about the pass at 130mph around Roy and claimed that he would not have done it with anyone else but Stephane. "Steph and I are great friends...I trust him as a driver implicitly and I knew that if I tried the move he would be fair", explained Kerin. "After that pass I was saddened to learn Steph was punted out and rejoined far back in the pack". Kerin started to pull away to a massive six second lead early in the race and maintained it as he put things on cruise control from that point on. Although loosing his track position was a non-issue Kerin remarkedafter the race, "I wanted so much for the race to end". Aaron Poveledo took second and Martin Guimont third. Points leader Didier Schranen finished a distant 10th. Pierre Savoy (Kerins racing coach) was constantly pushing me to go faster on the radio, explained Kerin. When you get alone like that you start to make silly mistakes. Pierre treated it like there was someone right behind me. Pierre and I work very well together..we can really read each others minds without saying much. He is my second set of eyes out there during practice and qualifying and that makes a big difference. Not only did Kerin bring home the first place trophy, he also furnished the team with an Indy Lights test to be held this Novemeber in Texas, his forth pole position of the season, and a $1,000 purse.
